“Nothing Funny About Money” puts a lighthearted spin on a sometimes scary subject: money. Each month, it features discussion, skits, guest interviews and practical tips. The show is hosted monthly by Matt J. Goren, CFP, and Michael G. Thomas Jr., AFC, and is produced at WUGA in Athens, Georgia.

As the local NPR affiliate for Athens and surrounding areas, WUGA seeks to develop local programming that meets NPR’s standards of excellence and creates a relevant and vibrant connection with the community. WUGA works with schools and units at the university and producers in the community to provide unique service to our listeners.

WUGA’s program and production staff collaborated with Matt Goren and Michael Thomas, providing technical and programming guidance as they developed “Nothing Funny About Money” as a radio program. Over 30 episodes of this half-hour program have been broadcast in the Athens area on WUGA. The show is also heard as occasional specials on Georgia Public Broadcasting’s statewide network. Podcasts of the program are available on NPR’s podcast site.

The show has received awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning and Financial Planning Magazine. WUGA’s cumulative weekly listening is approximately 20,000 and GPB operates 16 other stations throughout the state.
